FAQ

The Basics

Basically, here's how it works: You and your friends sign up and send each other an invite link to connect. After that, you can answer questions about each other to fill your profiles with traits and nice texts. Then you can search for matches for each other. To do this, you first need to activate your search. If your friends like a profile for you, you only get a match once the other person's friend group has also given their okay. You can then write to your matches yourself, of course.

If you're on Blindmate to meet someone, you create an account and link yourself with friends via a link. After that, you can set up your search profile, upload pictures, and provide info like age, job, or search settings. Your friends then fill in the rest of your profile and also search for matches for you. You're back in action once you have a match.

If you're not looking for yourself but want to set up your friends on Blindmate, you create an account and link yourself with your friends. You only need to provide a name that your friends recognize you by. No pictures, no profile info, no social security number :) After that, you can answer questions for your friends and search for matches. For all other people, except your friends, you are not visible in the app.

Yes, that works! :) Blindmate is designed so that even people in relationships can search for their single friends. When you sign up, your own search is not active at first. This means you're always in invisible matchmaking mode initially, and you can only set up your search profile if you want to.

To search for friends, you basically only need two things: 1. They have set up (and activated) their search. 2. You have answered the first 7 questions about them. After that, you should be able to search for them. You can simply jump to the left tab or click on the respective person in your friends list and then on "Find Matches".

Blindmate is a social game for everyone from 18 to 99 years old. So it's enough if you're an adult or at least of legal age.

Profiles and Questions

Many users who aren't searching themselves found it interesting to discover what profiles they'd get. A bit like a self-image vs. external perception personality test :) That's why we kept the option in the app. If you're reading this FAQ, the app probably just asked you a few questions about your matchmaker, even though you don't want that. Normally this should only happen when you've already completed everything for the day for your friends who are searching :D And you can always skip it, or use the friends list to control what you want to do for whom!

Blindmate has two fundamentally different question types: free text questions and questions with answers to choose from. You can always see all answers to free text questions on your profile. All other answers flow into your profile only indirectly through character traits :) You can't see the individual answers directly. It's just a bit more comfortable for friends. They should answer questions as honestly as possible, and that's easier when nobody is looking over their shoulder 😊

On your own profile, you can hide your friends' answers if you want (e.g. if they wrote something really silly 😄). When you go to your profile preview and long-press an answer, you can simply hide/delete it and the person will also get a short note in your friend chat that the answer was hidden. If you're a matchmaker for someone else and want to change answers to questions about your friends, you can simply go to your friends' page and click "Change Answers". There you can re-answer all questions. For text questions, you can also just long-press your answer directly in the profile :)

When you set up your search profile, you create part of your profile yourself: your pictures and some basic info like job, age, etc. Your friends handle the rest by answering questions about you. This automatically creates character traits on your profile. For a few questions, friends can also give text answers, which then also appear on your profile. You can always decide yourself what should be on your profile and what shouldn't. If something really doesn't fit, you can hide it anytime.

In short: No 😁 You of course have full control over your profile yourself. You choose your photos and your search settings. Your friends fill your profile with traits and text answers through the questions. And if one of them really isn't okay, you can hide it anytime. But normally that's not necessary. They are your friends, after all 😊

What should you know before meeting Paul? "Paul is just really dumb... and he only changes his socks every two weeks!" Yeah, that would be... rubbish :) The good news: you choose who you connect with and who gets to create your profile. So: trust your friends. They'll manage, and a bit of silliness actually makes profiles really charming :) If something stupid really does end up on a profile, you can simply hide it yourself or report it to us and we'll take care of the clean-up.

What type of party guest is Paul at house parties? comes and stuffs himself - only goes to pick people up - does the dishes all evening - argues drunk for hours - throws up in the flower pots How athletic is Paula? gorilla and cheetah in one - horse - sheep - sloth - brick The app has over 200 questions. Some you can answer with text, for others you choose preset options. To keep things interesting, there are lots of different answer and question types. And then there's of course the one big question: who fits best with your friends?

You can change your pictures by going to "Edit Profile" in the right tab and then pressing one of your pictures. If that doesn't work, you're probably in the profile preview. But there's also an "edit" icon in the top right there that takes you where you wanted to go 😅

When you go to "my profile" in the right tab, you should see 6 small circles around your main picture. If you press one of them, the upload dialog should appear :)

Matches and Blind Chats

Basically, here's how it works: when your friends swipe for you, they like profiles of people they think would be a good match for you. If that person's friend group also likes your profile, a match is created :) The two matched people then chat themselves, of course :) But with the knowledge that both friend groups think there could be something there 💪

Blind chats are basically normal chats with your matches, except that the profile is only revealed gradually the more you chat with each other. This makes it a bit more exciting and means you really engage with the other person. And so you have something to talk about right away, you can reveal details from your profiles using the icebreakers in the bottom left.

So you have something to talk about in a blind chat, there are icebreakers! You can find icebreakers on the small button with the dice in the bottom left of the blind chat. When you reveal one, either a shared character trait from your profiles or a text answer from your friends is revealed. And those are usually funny, immediately a great conversation starter, and not as boring as the icebreakers you might be used to 😎

In blind chats, your match's profile (and yours too, of course) is only revealed gradually the more you chat with each other. This makes it a bit more exciting and focuses more on getting to know each other rather than just appearances. When you chat, you earn "Peeks" — points that let you reveal individual elements on your match's profile. Additionally, after 6 back-and-forth exchanges (so at most 12 messages alternating), you can fully reveal your profiles to each other. You'll find the button when you tap the chat header. But only when both have pressed the button will the profiles be mutually revealed.

On Blindmate, for the first few years you actually couldn't see who had liked someone anywhere. We think that as a matchmaker, you're simply less influenced this way and create matches because you think they really fit together. When someone likes a profile, it does get mixed further to the front in the search (though still somewhat randomly). But since many of you wanted to be able to see likes and we now have a Premium package that helps finance the app, we built it in there. With it, both matchmakers can see likes and the people searching can too (and then forward them to their matchmakers). So if you want to see likes, you can do so by getting the Premium package — and you also help us a lot to keep the app running for everyone 💪😊

Questions About Search

Basically, you can only search for your friends once they've set up their search profile and you've answered the first few questions about them. If both conditions are met, you should be able to go to the person in your friends list and then click "Find Matches". Most of the time it's because the person hasn't finished setting up their search yet. You can just ask them :)

Yes! 🙂 There's another chance. We remix rejected profiles after a few weeks because a lot can still change on a profile, especially at the beginning. If you reject them again, they stay out for a while. And there's one exception: if another friend group likes your friends, you'll see the profile again.

We recommend public transportation 😎 Okay, that was a bad one 🙈 You can change your location anytime by going to "Edit Profile" in the right tab and simply entering something new in the location line :) In larger cities, this is even differentiated by neighborhoods. So if you can't find something, try that. Alternatively, you can also just have your location determined automatically.

Currently it works like this: your friends see people nearby and when there are no more, the radius increases step by step automatically. This keeps things a bit more exciting for the matchmakers, especially in places where Blindmate still needs to spread the word more. Once Blindmate is well-known enough, you'll be able to set it freely :)

When your matchmakers swipe for you, they're naturally always shown profiles for the location you specified in your search settings. Your matchmakers are searching for people for you, not for themselves 😁

If you want to pause your search, you can do that anytime in the right tab. There you can switch from single mode to matchmaker mode by clicking "Search active" in the top right. This way you won't appear in the search for others and your matchmakers can't swipe for you either. And don't worry: all your blind chats so far will of course remain and you can continue writing to your matches. Apart from your friends, no one sees that you've deactivated your search.

Blindmate Premium

Thanks to our wonderful community (you :D) and a lot of hard work, Blindmate has transformed from a hobby project into a serious dating app over the last few years 🧡 Because of that, we need to finance things like an office, server costs, or salaries, so we built a Premium package 😊 It was important to us to keep Blindmate free as it was. With Premium, you get cool extra features that make the search more exciting and easier for you and your matchmakers. At the same time, you support us and the app enormously! And the best part: you can also gift Premium to your friends to support them even more 🧡💪 How exactly does Premium work? We thought it was cool that your whole crew benefits from Premium! When you buy Premium, you of course get all Premium features normally. But additionally, all your matchmakers also get Premium features when they swipe for you ✨ So all your friends benefit 😊 What do you get with Premium? Compatibility You can see directly while swiping how well your friends match with other people. You get a detailed diagram showing how much the two overlap and what their greatest commonalities and differences are! This gives you a direct overview of whether the two would be a good match! See Likes Your matchmakers can see while swiping whether and how many friends on the other side have already liked your profile. So they can directly make a match out of it. More Swipes Your matchmakers can swipe 3x as many profiles a day for you! But no pressure 😅 Image Analysis Start an analysis of your profile pictures to see which ones work best! Blindmate shows you which images are clicked most often and how long they're viewed on average. This gives you a good feel for which ones you might want to swap out to make your profile even more likeable! Preferences Non-smoker, tall, humorous, wants children — with preferences you can select characteristics that are especially important to you in your matches. Our algorithm then searches for profiles with these characteristics near you and sorts them to the front. Your matchmakers also see immediately on each profile whether a person fits — or if something doesn't match. Your matchmakers can additionally select a few characteristics themselves.

Questions About the Concept

Currently in Europe and the US. If we could, we'd launch globally and on the moon, but that involves a lot of work and high costs (servers on the moon are really expensive). We're working on it and as soon as we can, we'll launch Blindmate in other countries :)

It's pretty Yin & Yang & Yong with us, with a few more women.

Blindmate is for everyone :D At least that's our goal, and if we're not quite living up to it somewhere, we'd love to hear your feedback!

We're sorry. Because friends build profiles on Blindmate, it's very difficult and time-consuming to create fakes. We know that fake profiles are an important part of dating apps, and we're working as hard as we can to make Blindmate more accessible for fakes.

Many users wanted a sort of leaderboard just to compare for fun how active they are among each other. And we thought: why not 😀 On the leaderboard you can see how active you and your friends are. And on your friends' pages there's an individual one for each person you can swipe for.

Tbh.: just for fun 😅 Many people just thought it was cool and exciting to compete a little with their friends :D And otherwise they're of course also karma points because you're helping your friends 😎

Bugs and Problems

For technical problems and questions about the app, you can say "Hello" to us in the support chat. For all other questions about life, the universe, and everything, feel free too — but we can't promise to have an answer for everything.

Try pressing "sync with server" under FAQ in the right tab. If that doesn't help, we'd love to hear about those wild bugs in the support chat 😄

If you can't log in for whatever reason, it's best to write to us in the app's support chat. Ok, just kidding 😁 Just send us an email at huhu@blindmate.de and we'll help you out!

You can delete your account (and all data we have about you) by going to "miscellaneous" at the bottom of the right tab. Quick warning: because privacy is important to us, we delete everything we have about you, which means all answers you gave about your friends will also be deleted. If you haven't linked with friends yet and are still in the registration process, you can delete your account on the page where you can send invitations by clicking the "..." in the top right :)
